Kevin Decker

Private banjo instruction.

Kevin Decker has 29 years of experience in playing banjo. Kevin started playing banjo at the age of 15, and studied under several professional banjo players. He learned to read tablature, and to transcribe music.

Kevin spent most of his adult life in Southern Alabama, where he traveled and performed with various artists and groups. He participated in and instructed many banjo workshops along side performers such as Tony Trischka and Bella Fleck. In addition to the banjo, Kevin plays the guitar, bass and mandolin. He feels that his greatest accomplishment so far was forming a family band with his wife, son and daughter after teaching them to play.

A good friend, and former student described Kevin as someone who looks at the banjo as an all encompassing instrument of music, mind and spirit. He feels that each and every note is an adventure in musical discovery.
